Decarbonization Roadmap for SQM

Since 2022, ImplementaSur has supported SQM in strengthening its climate strategy. We conducted a full quantification of the company’s corporate carbon footprint (including Scope 3 emissions) and provided key recommendations for defining organizational boundaries. In 2024, we developed a decarbonization plan for its Iodine and Plant Nutrition business unit, focusing on setting feasible, actionable reduction targets aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) guidelines.

Approach and Project Implementation

We built an emissions projection based on anticipated operational growth, modeling a baseline scenario with no intervention. Through on-site workshops with operational teams, we jointly identified and prioritized a portfolio of mitigation measures based on their reduction potential and technical feasibility.

We evaluated various implementation scenarios, incorporating technological and economic criteria, and defined a target decarbonization pathway. This scenario enables SQM to commit to a realistic, evidence-based climate target, developing a clear roadmap for the progressive reduction of emissions in its Iodine and Plant Nutrition operations.
