Chile continues to move forward in advancing corporate action to address biodiversity loss with the launch of the first Nature and Biodiversity Accelerator in Latin America. This initiative, spearheaded by Acción Empresas within the framework of the Business Action Plan on Biodiversity—developed in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and with technical support from Business for Nature—marks an important milestone for the region.

The Accelerator was created in support of the global It’s Now for Nature campaign, launched in November 2023 by Business for Nature to accelerate corporate action on nature. Its main objective is for companies to develop and publish credible, traceable nature strategies aligned with minimum criteria and the ACT-D approach (Assess, Commit, Transform and Disclose) by 2030.

“Biodiversity loss is not only an environmental issue—it is a business risk. The Accelerator seeks to help companies understand their dependence on nature, identify their impacts, and make strategic decisions that contribute to protecting and restoring ecosystems,” said Constanza Pantaleón, CEO of Acción Empresas.

In this context, ImplementaSur plays a central role as the technical implementation partner of the Accelerator (along with Nature Invest), bringing its expertise in corporate sustainability, nature and biodiversity, and climate action to support companies in meeting the minimum criteria defined under the campaign framework.

This unique program in the region aims to support 20 companies from different economic sectors in developing or updating robust nature and biodiversity strategies aligned with science-based frameworks and international standards. The program runs for nine months, from November 2025 to July 2026, combining specialized technical support, diagnostic tools, hands-on workshops, and collaborative learning spaces among participating companies.

Participation in this initiative represents another milestone in ImplementaSur’s efforts to integrate nature and biodiversity into corporate strategic decision-making—addressing both companies’ impacts on ecosystems and their dependencies on the services ecosystems provide.

“At ImplementaSur, we have worked to harmoniously combine Business for Nature’s technical expertise, Acción Empresas’ leadership in corporate sustainability, and our own ability to understand the context of the companies and sectors participating in the Accelerator. This enables us to deliver clear diagnostics and roadmaps that support companies in effectively designing their nature strategies,” said Hernán López, Consulting Manager at ImplementaSur.

As the Accelerator’s technical implementer, ImplementaSur is customizing the It’s Now for Nature content, training materials, and guidance in line with the High-Level Business Actions for Nature based on the ACT-D criteria. It is also leading workshops and working sessions with participants. During the first months, the team conducted a diagnostic assessment to determine participating companies’ maturity levels on these topics, identifying gaps that will be addressed throughout the program.

The Accelerator has already launched with two in-person sessions. The first included the “Biodiversity Mural” activity, designed to encourage reflection on the impact of business decisions on ecosystems. The second focused on introducing key concepts related to nature, biodiversity, and strategy, as well as presenting the results of the diagnostic phase. We thank Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Natura Invest, and Rodrigo Arriagada for providing space for these sessions.

The next stages will center on practical work by participating companies, translating the diagnostic findings into roadmaps and corporate decisions to manage impacts and dependencies on nature and biodiversity, aligned with international standards.
