Climate Curve and the Global Methane Hub have named the eight inaugural laureates of the Climate Curve Prize: Methane — the world’s first prize dedicated exclusively to accelerating methane-mitigation solutions in food and waste systems. The laureates were announced at the Regenerative Systems Summit during Climate Week NYC, each receiving $25,000 in no-strings-attached prize funding for a total of $200,000.
The eight laureates were selected from the sixteen finalists unveiled earlier this summer at a gala hosted by Seth Meyers in Aspen, Colorado. The prize laureates represent some of the most promising approaches to tackling methane emissions from agriculture and waste worldwide.
“Methane is one of the fastest levers we have for near-term climate action, and this inaugural cohort represents some of the most dynamic solutions emerging in food and waste systems today,” says Jacquelyn Francis, Founder & Executive Director of Climate Curve. “From reimagining agricultural practices to transforming how we manage waste, these eight laureates are scaling innovations that are already cutting emissions on the ground worldwide. We’re proud to celebrate them as they carry this critical work forward.”
For example, Santiago, Chile–based Recycle Organics, a program led by ImplementaSur, which reduces methane emissions from organic waste through composting, anaerobic digestion, landfill gas capture, and policy development across more than 25 countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and Oceania.
Mitigation Category — Direct reduction of methane emissions from livestock, food loss and waste, rice cultivation, and other food and waste systems.
