A composting plant for your community
We want to help you get a first idea about a municipal organic waste composting plant project in your community.
With the tool you will be able to know:
- Minimum treatment capacity that the composting plant must have, according to the number (known or projected) of households that will participate in the program.
- Maximum number of households to be considered in the differentiated collection program, according to the maximum treatment capacity (known or projected) of the plant.
Remember!
DETERMINE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING INITIAL VALUES.
- Treatment capacity of the plant (ton/year).
2) Number of households participating in differentiated collection.
Required data
For the design it is necessary to choose the value of different parameters::
1) For the design it is necessary to choose the value of different parameters:
- Inhabitants per dwelling: average number of people living per dwelling, by commune.
- Per capita production (PPC): Average amount of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) generated by each inhabitant during a day (kg/inhabitant*day), by commune.
- Organic waste fraction: Percentage of the organic fraction of total MSW, by municipality.
2) We will also use the following parameters. If you don’t know them, don’t worry, we recommend values that you can use:
- Capture Rate (%): Percentage of household organic waste that is effectively separated at source by the user. E.g.: Organic waste from leftover meat, bones, fish meals or others are discarded without composting.
- Participation rate (%): Percentage of households that actively participate in the program of separation at source and differentiated waste collection.
- Collection days per week: Frequency of organic waste collection in households participating in the collection system (days/week).
- You can always modify manually all the parameters that we recommend to use at the end of the calculator. All decimal values are in the English system (separated by a period instead of a comma).
